“Daito-ryu is the father of many Japanese martial arts. Categorically the major influence on the development of Aikido is Daito-ryu, and it is difficult to find a movement in Aikido that does not originate in Takeda's jujutsu form."-- Stanley Pranin (Chief Editor of Aikido Journal)

Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu is the real deal. It’s magic.

Sensei La France has been studying the martial arts since he was 5 years old… more or less his whole life. He did not believe in the magic of Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu until it was done to him. Now he is a lifetime student.

Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu is an ANCIENT art. Is one of – if not THE – oldest martial arts still taught. And it’s still taught! Not because it’s old, but because it is effective. It is real.

What exactly is Daito Ryu Aik-ijujutsu?
Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu is a warrior art. But not just a martial art, or fighting system, but rather a martial way. Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu is a Kodo… a COMPLETE martial art.

In Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu, students will learn the quickest, most efficient way to deal with an attack or strike… whether that’s by one person or multiple opponents. This is combat training. Students will learn their kicking. They will learn their striking. They will study pins. Not to mention training in throws and grabs. Plus… weapons. Students will train in Jo, sword, and double sticks.

This is a defense martial art. The Martial Arts Studio is a defense school. Students will learn how to defend their (1) body… (2) family… (3) home… and (4) honor.

FAQ: What Aiki-jujutsu Family does your Aiki come from?
Our Aiki art comes from the Daito Ryu family of Japan… specifically the Takeda Clan.

FAQ:  Do you earn belts and rank at The Martial Arts Studio?
Yes. Testing and graduation occur when the Sifu believes it is necessary and time. A student can earn belts through Sensei La France at The Martial Arts Studio. He or she can also become ranked by the Daito Ryu Kodo Kai if he or she wants. To become ranked by the Kodo Kai however, a student must join the East Coast Daito Ryu Federation. Ranking through the Federation will cost additional ranking fees that are paid directly to the Federation.

WHO IS SENSEI ROY GOLDBERG?

Goldberg (Shingen) Sensei is the East Coast Representative of the North American Daito Ryu Aikijujutsuu Kodokai. Sensei is the highest-ranking student of Hayawo Kiyama Shihan - the President and Chief Instructor of the same organization.

Sensei is honored to have trained at the hombu dojo in Kitami, Japan for the past 20 years. He has trained with the leading Daito-Ryu shihans in Japan including Yusuke Inoue Menkyo Kaiden, headmaster of the Kodokai. Over the course of his shugyo, he has been awarded the Hiden Mokuroku (The Secret Essence - 1st scroll of Daito Ryu techniques), as well as the Hiden Okugi Mokuroku (The Secret Essence of Mysteries - 2nd scroll). He has also received the rarely issued Kyoju Dairi (representative instructor) teaching license.

Goldberg Sensei aspires to transmit the techniques of Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu - the beautiful, secret art and national treasure of Japan. His goal is to pass down Daito-ryu to serious students, as presented to him by the hombu dojo and Kiyama Shihan. Sensei believes that in the martial arts, one teaches only to continue his own unfinished study.

"The Martial Arts Studio is the best. I have always felt welcome here and Sensei La France's knowledge ensures that I am getting the best training possible."  -- B. Rose
