THERE WAS A TIME WHEN PARENTING was a simple job. Not easy, but fairly straightforward: You had kids, you provided them with food, clothes, shelter, an education, and a decent sense of right and wrong. Unfortunately, evidence is steadily mounting that The Way We Parent Now — roughly defined as giving your child as much opportunity and attention as possible, while requiring little from him or her in return — is turning out to be something of a disaster. We've come a long way, baby. Check out this belt graduation from more than 10 years ago. So cool!
Amy Cuddy explains that body language not only affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how "power posing" -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don't feel confident -- can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.
Welcome Senpai Jones!
It is with great pleasure that I announce an
addition to the Martial Arts Studio Instructional
family... Senpai John Jones.
Senpai Jones will be taking on the leadership role
of Head Martial Arts Instructor for the Youth
Program at The Martial Arts Studio. Something he
is very much looking forward to as well as
training with Sensei La France.
Now, many of you had the chance to meet Senpai
Jones last night. And hopefully the rest of you will
get a chance to greet Senpai Jones face-to-face this
week. But before you get that chance to shake his hand, I'd like to take a moment to tell you a bit more about Senpai Jones.
Senpai Jones has been training in the martial arts for more than 19 years. It is his passion and professional calling. He has studied Tae Kwon Do... Muay Thai (Kickboxing)... Jiu Jitsu... Arnis... and Aikido. And eager to learn even more. His dedication to training has earned him his 4th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do as well as many years of teaching experience.
While born and raised in Delaware, Senpai Jones made the professional decision to leave this area to take on an Instructor role at Marietta Martial Arts in Georgia. But when he heard that The Martial Arts Studio was looking for someone to lead its Youth program, he welcomed the opportunity to work at such a dojo and return home.
Senpai Jones is the youngest of 5 children (yup... five). He has two brothers and two sisters... all who are older than him. While he LOVES football, Senpai Jones claims to be a staunch Pittsburg Steelers supporter. No booing please. Why, you ask? Why would he choose the Steelers over the Eagles. Well, all his siblings love the Eagles so as the youngest child he choose to route for a team that would bug his siblings the most. A choice well made.
Senpai Jones also likes Clint Eastwood movies and muscle cars... especially the 1970 Dodge Charger. And while he may be a superstar in the dojo, he is afraid of heights. So no roller coasters for him.
We are thrilled to have Senpai Jones as part of The Martial Arts Studio family and know he will bring greatness to the dojo.
Full-time dojo serving Chester County since 1998.
